Luke Syphus (A Century)
- Luke Syphus
- Luke Syphus: Luke and his wife Christiana converted to Mormonism in England, and wanted to move to Utah to live with the other saints. They didn’t have enough money so they accepted a free sailboat ride to Australia in 1852, after a couple years they had saved enough money to travel to California. They arrived on the beach and had their second child; their child is known to this day as the first white baby born in San Pedro, California in1856. There is a statue there to this day to honor the baby.
JohannChristian Burgess
- JohannChristian Burgess: was a Hessian mercenary from Germany. He was hired to fight for the British during the Revolutionary War. He deserted the British and joined America. He then changed his name to Burgess so he wouldn’t be killed for deserting the army was treason.
Thomas Rogers
- Thomas Rogers: One of the English Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower on the trip to the New World, in 1620. He left England to start a new life in the Americas.
Andrew Burgess

Andrew Burgess (Schwalm)
- Andrew Burgess: Andrew lived in New York, and was born in 1837. He began his career in photography when he was hired by his neighbor, Matthew Brady (one of the most celebrated photographers during the American Civil War), to help take pictures of the American Civil War. As Andrew became more skilled in photography, he opened a gallery with Brady. Andrew began photographing all through Mexico and Europe, and even photographed the Franco-Prussian War. Soon Andrew took a new interest in firearm design, most likely from all the war pictures. He began working improvements on rifles and guns such as the Peabody rifle. He soon opened a gun factory which he later sold to Winchester (a popular gun company today). His improvements and changes are found in several gun companies today such as Colt, Marlin, Whitneyville Armory, and Winchester.
Eli Whitney

Eli Whitney
- Eli Whitney: Eli lived from 1765 to 1825 in Connecticut, USA. He is famous for inventing the cotton gin, this machine cleaned more cotton in one hour than several people could put together. This invention was very important during the Industrial Revolution.
Rebecca Nurse

Rebecca Nurse while she was on trial
- Rebecca Nurse: Nurse lived in Salem, Massachusetts during the famous Salem Witch Trials. She was executed on charges of being a witch, and hung on July 19th, 1692, even though there was no credible evidence given.
